Center For Positive Living: Newsletter
New Board of Trustees at CPL! - February 8, 2008
Once again we send our gratitude to our previous board members; Marsha Hannah, Sandy Anderson, Joyce Porter and Marcia Todd-Thompson for their love and service to our community.
In keeping with our desire to fill these vacant positions as soon as possible and support the ongoing operations of the Center to the best of our ability, we have been treating for the right and perfect new board members to come forward. We are excited and grateful to let you know that three passionate and extremely qualified CPL members have stepped forward and into this level of leadership within the church. These three positions were elected to fill unexpired board terms. What this means in terms of our bylaws is that when board members resign prior to the end of a term, the remaining board members are responsible for voting in new members. After meeting with these parties and being thrilled with their desire and qualifications to serve, we have accepted these three requests to serve in the capacity of board members effective immediately. The addition of these board members brings much desirable strength to the leadership of CPL to assist us in our next level of growth.
So with much excitement and gratitude we present to you the new

Now, allow us to tell you a little bit more about our new board members.
Linda Dougherty
Linda is someone who loves and lives the Science of Mind teaching, having actively incorporated it into her life for the past year since her journey brought her to CPL. Her involvement at CPL over the last year has demonstrated unconditional love and support of the Center in a variety of ways that include volunteering and class activity and she has signed up to be a SEVA team leader in 2008. She says that although she has always considered herself a positive person, SOM has impacted her most in the area of being able to remain centered and calm in the world of work and everyday life. From a business background she brings the following:
Financial Acumen/Masters Degree in Accounting
Leadership, management, organization and communication skills
The ability to make decisions and execute effectively
Good Interpersonal skills
All of which she is called to use everyday in her job as the CEO of accounting at TIAA-CREF.
Linda said “CPL is the most important avenue in my life for the continuation of my spiritual growth. I am so grateful to be a part of this community and I am honored to serve as a member of the board of trustees.”

Sabrina Brathwaite

She has completed the SOM 100 series and currently completing the SOM 200 series with the intention of continuing her SOM classes to result in becoming a licensed Religious Science practitioner. She says her immense desire to be a part of CPL’s growth is due to her personal vision for CPL which is way beyond Charlotte. She said that she sees our center reaching not only across our country but across the world and that the world needs us. She continued in saying that she sees CPL beyond just a church but as a movement…a movement of consciousness.
Sabrina’s business background includes:
Sales Background of almost 10 years (advertising and legal services)
Wealth Management Advisor (license broker, investment advisor, insurance license)
Bachelors in Mass Communications
Masters in Business Administration
In addition she brings the experience and skills of public relations, marketing, event planning, growing & preserving abundance, networking and leadership.
Sabrina is currently employed with Merrill Lynch as a Financial Advisor.

Cheryl Perry
Cheryl has been attending CPL for over two years. She has taken the year long Essential Self Class, 5 Gifts For An Abundant Life Prosperity Class as well as several SOM classes. She served on the board at her previous church and is therefore familiar with the inner workings of leadership within a church setting. She has facilitated classes of expanding consciousness at her previous church and at her home for the past seven years. She brings a unique blend of logic and intuition, flavored with a sense of humor. She sees things from different perspectives and can come up with solutions for the benefit of all.
In addition to her desire to serve, Cheryl has demonstrated the type of leadership skills and qualities of character that will serve our Center well. She said that CPL has given her so much and now it is time to give back. In business she has managed teams of over 50 people and feels that she has learned a lot about relationships. She has proven her commitment to supporting the vision of CPL both spiritually and physically over the last two years and we look forward to having her lend her ideas and passion to the Center as a member of the board of trustees.
Cheryl is currently employed by Wachovia Bank in their Problem Management Department addressing large system computer issues.
Welcome NEW board members!

Treatment For Expansion - October 16, 2006
Treatment For Expansion ~ Expanding The Love
Knowing that I live in a sea of infinite possibility, I know that God is the source of all life, of all good, of all abundance. And knowing that I live in a co-creative relationship with this Universal Mind, I place my trust and faith in the Law and Love of the Universe. In recognizing that I am one with this law of immutable potential, I now speak my truth into the one mind, knowing that God's mind and my mind are one. The truth as I know it is that my word has power and I now place a demand on Law.
I claim for myself and for the Center For Positive Living, my Spiritual Community, an expanded awareness of unlimited abundance. This abundance comes in all forms. I accept an expansion of abundance in the form of; love, commitment, service, joy, enthusiasm, dedication to spiritual growth, respect for self and others and in the form of financial abundance to meet and exceed all needs and desires for myself and my spiritual community.
I know the Center For Positive Living is a beacon of light for all of those who seek a greater understanding of themselves and their place in the universe. As this Center radiates the love, peace, joy and abundance of God it can only attract those same qualities of God back to it. Therefore I know that as I focus on this abundance in all forms, what I focus on expands. In this natural evolution of expanding consciousness I know and I accept for the Center For Positive Living in Charlotte, NC the perfect church home with the look, feel and functioning capabilities that surpasses all of my greatest imaginings.
I am so grateful to know that I live in a Universe that is always for me, delivering to me the desires of my heart. I accept this expansion for myself and for my spiritual community with a heart full of gratitude. I accept our right and perfect church home in Divine Right Timing and I trust that it is already so. Thank you God for my abundant life. Thank you God for my loving and abundant spiritual home. I release this word, allowing it to be the truth of my life. And so it is!

Going To 2 Services! - February 23, 2006
Hi Everyone,
For those of you that were unable to attend the Annual Meeting last Sunday, here is an update.
The board and the expansion committee have been exploring many different options to accommodate our growth for some time. We realized last fall that the Presbyterian Church we looked at, though adorable, was not our next step. Since that time we have continued to vision and treat for our perfect space and we will continue to do so in the future. In the mean time, however, the sanctuary is currently standing room only on Sundays and people are turning to leave due to lack of seating. Therefore, we know that there must be a "next step" available to us right now.
When investigating the process involved in the possibility of expanding at our current location we realized that even that option would take months to complete, in which time we would need to move to 2 Services to accommodate our growth. Therefore, with our without expanding at our current location we realized that the next logical step is to move to 2 services and to do so right away.
So, without further adieu we are going to 2 Services effective March 5th. We realize this is a sudden and large change and yet we also realize that postponing this decision would continue to result in literally turning people away every Sunday. Therefore, we trust that we have your continued support in this next step in our growth. Also, rest assured that maintaining the feeling of community we have grown together is very important to us, as well as delivering the same level of passion and energy in two services that you have grown to expect from one.
The new times are as follows:
8:15 Native American Flute Meditation
8:30-9:30 1st Service
10:15 Native American Flute Meditation
10:30 Affirmative Prayer Meditation
11:00-12:00 2nd Service
We choose these times and the lapse of time in between services to give ourselves, the volunteers and the practitioners time to be prepared and ready to go for the 2nd service. Also, we wanted to allow for that socializing time after service, for both services, that we have all grown to love so much. Last, but certainly not least we want to allow time for the parking lot to clear so we can avoid parking lot congestion.
We appreciate your presence in and your commitment to this Spiritual Community that we love so much!
Namaste,
Renee` & Christy

Your Words Hold Power! - February 2, 2006
Recently one of our practitioners, Marcia Todd-Thompson, read an email during service entitled: "Your Words Hold Power". There were so many people requesting copies of it that we decided we should post it here for everyone to read. Your words DO hold power! You are co-creating your experience every minute of every do. What do you wish to create? Namaste ~ Renee' & Christy
YOUR WORDS HOLD POWER
Your words, your dreams, and your thoughts have power to create conditions in your life. What you speak about, you can bring about.
If you keep saying you can't stand your job, you might lose your job.
If you keep saying you can't stand your body, your
body can become sick.
If you keep saying you're always broke, guess what?
You'll always be broke.
If you keep saying you can't trust a man or trust a
woman, you will always find someone in your life to
hurt and betray you.
If you keep saying you can't find a job, you will
remain unemployed.
If you keep saying you can't find someone to love you or believe in you, your very thoughts will attract
more experiences to confirm your beliefs.
If you keep talking about a divorce or break up in a relationship, then you might end up with it.
Turn your thoughts and conversations around to be more positive and
power packed with faith, hope, love and action.
Don't be afraid to believe that you can have what you want and deserve.
Watch your Thoughts, they become words.
Watch your Words, they become actions.
Watch your Actions, they become habits.
Watch your Habits, they become character.
Watch your Character, for it becomes your Destiny.

Services For Starr - October 17, 2005
Hello Everyone,
For anyone who may not have read today's earlier email, a member of our CPL family, Starr Lambert, made her transition yesterday morning.
We spent the day with Starr's daughter Mindy and her husband Rodney today and we have plans to share with you regarding a Celebration of Life and a Memorial Service.
We will have a Celebration of Life service at CPL on Friday night Oct. 28th at 7pm. This will be our opportunity to share our "Starr Stories", our feelings and to celebrate the "Large" life of this beautiful soul. Starr loved music and to share a meal with her friends, so we will finish the evening with music and a meal. Bring a covered dish, comments or stories to share and dress up in stars if you feel like it.
The Memorial Service will be at the lake behind her condo on Sunday Oct. 30th at 3pm, where we will scatter her ashes.
**************************************************************************
Other news regarding Starr:
Starr's daughter donated a sign to the church that hung in Star's living room that she loved very much. You will see it on Sunday, it quotes the Beatles "and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make"
The "Starr Fund"
Until the executor of Starr's estate arrives from Seattle the money in the estate can not be used to pay for any of the necessary expenses including her cremation. Several of us at the church are contributing to raise the $800 needed for this. If you would like to contribute, please make checks payable to CPL and indicate "Starr Fund" on your check. Any excess funds we receive will be used to start the "Starr Lambert Angel Brigade Fund" which will be a helping hands fund for helping others. Instead of flowers her daughter has requested that donations be made to the "Starr Fund" so that her gift of giving can continue.
**************************************************************************
The changes to our scheduled CPL activities in light of these plans are as follows:
We are postponing our Practitioner Sunday until Nov. 13th (providing this works for their schedules, we will confirm this soon). The brief but informative meeting regarding our expansion that was scheduled for this Sunday, we are postponing until the 30th immediately following service.
**************************************************************************

Starr Lambert ~ We love you Starr! - October 17, 2005
A transition of life happened yesterday. Marcia "Starr" Lambert, a dynamic member of our Spiritual Community, had a fatal car crash Sunday morning on her way to the center. We tried to let as many of you know in person as was possible last night when we found out, however we were unable to share this information with all of you in person and wanted to go ahead and get this out via email and the website.
This is a big adjustment that we will each be adjusting to in our own individual ways and in our own time. We know that a person's soul never dies and that the bond of love and friendship between us and a loved one is eternal and remains now just as before. This is a comfort and yet we still grieve the loss of our friend here in the physical form. Allow yourself the process of grief. We can know the Spiritual Truth about the transition of a loved one while still recognizing and honoring that our feelings and emotions are part of us as well. Don't be afraid to feel your feelings, they are spiritual too, and if you need to talk and/or if you would like treatment please give us a call.
Starr had written several books, one of our favorites was a book called "Living Large Now" and that kind of says it all about how brightly she shined her light.
We will let you know as the details evolve with regard to funeral
arrangements as well as a Celebration of Life service for her at CPL.
Here are a couple of web links that brought us comfort. It was nice to be able to read more about our friend and actually hear her voice and her laugh on this radio interview recording.

Just as a bend in the river does not mean that the river ceases flowing beyond what we can see, so we realize that life does not begin with the person's arrival on earth nor does it end when we depart from here. Life is a continuum, and now we honor the ongoing of a soul, while remembering her experiences of shining so brightly here with us in her radiant physical form, singing and dancing all the way (and I'm sure she still is)! We love you Starr!
In love & gratitude for this light we call Starr!

We Accept Our Good! - October 13, 2005
Hello Everyone,
We are breathing in the beautiful presence of Spirit and exhaling into a state of complete relaxation in the One, so grateful for this day and for this life! Our lives are so blessed by each and every one of you that make up our Spiritual Community that is the Center For Positive Living. Thank YOU!
The latest buzz around the walls of CPL is the tremendous growth we have experienced this year moving from an average attendance of 40 people to our new average of 115! We are thrilled to be sharing the message of truth with more and more people and to be expanding this loving community.
The church has formed an Expansion Committee and we are looking into all of the options available to support our growth by means of a new church home. During this process of growth and change we want everyone to know that we are very interested in your thoughts and ideas and that we are also sensitive to any feelings that arise within you during this or any time. We want to hear your comments, suggestions and are here to talk with you about anything that may come up for you during this time of change. We breathe easily as we remind each other that nothing and no one can stand between us and our good and we know that nothing needs to be coerced in this Universe of infinite good, we need only allow that good entry into our lives.
We have thus far identified some of the physical qualities that we envision for our new home. Some of these qualities include the space to continue to grow, plenty of parking, the room to gather after service since sharing in community is so important to each of us, plenty of room for all ages of children, land, trees, grass, nature surrounding us, a beautiful sanctuary and grounds, signage potential on a major road, and more.
These locational qualities are in addition of course to the energetic qualities that we hold so dear, such as:
An atmosphere that is open, loving, embracing, positive, friendly, harmonious, centered in Spirit, free flowing, etc.
Having said all of that we would like to address our gratitude for our current church home and our gratitude for all of the love and work that has gone into making our current home sacred. We know that our gratitude for the good in our lives brings about more good.
I know that it takes much Spiritual discipline to allow ourselves to become excited and yet remain detached to the outcome but that is exactly what this situation calls for (all of life really). We must pray, knowing that the answer of how our new home will come to us is not our concern; our clear intention of what that new home will feel like is what is important for us to focus on. The Law of the Universe is working for us conspiring for our good and bringing our new home to us as we speak. We can trust in it and we can be excited...without fear and without attachment!
Our church community is over 25 years old and has developed the consciousness of a church home that not only meets but exceeds all of our desires. Let us be willing to accept this...it is time.
We know that we are clear with our intention for a spacious church home that meets all of our desires. We know that we are clear that this can and will be done with grace, ease, harmony, unity and great prosperity. Thank you Spirit that flows through each of us and everyone in this community, thank you for our clear intentions and our powerful feeling nature that IS creative. We are one with the infinite of God. We give up our good for our better, continually accepting more of the abundance that the Universe has to offer. We accept the love, we accept the good. Thank you God...And so it is!

Volunteers & Committees - October 10, 2005
DO YOU WANT TO BE MORE INVOLVED?...VOLUNTEER!
If you are interested in volunteering at the Center we would love to have you join us. You can sign up for a specific committee or to be a volunteer in general for different needs that arise.
We would like to say a huge Thank You to Tony Tallent & George Shaffer for all of their hard work and dedication to the youth program that they have invested this year. The have established a wonderful curriculum for the kids and have therefore made volunteering in Jr. Church very easy. We would like to have 12 volunteers for Jr. Church as soon as possible so that we have 2 people each week on a 6 week rotation, so that no one has to be away from "Big Church" all the time. This is our most immediate need in the volunteer program at the moment. If this is an area that you feel you would like to give of your time we would greatly appreciate it, the kids would greatly appreciate it and you will be blessed from it!
Here are the CPL Committees:
Hospitality (ushers, greeters, coffee, etc. for Sunday mornings)
Church Family Outreach (celebrating and supporting during the ups and downs in peoples lives; ie: birthdays, hospital stays, etc.)
Jr. Church (Jr. Church volunteers for Sunday as well as occasional youth programs)
Special Events (Concerts, Workshops, Guests...Help with the events & coordinating with the Marketing Team)
Marketing (Promote via newspaper, flyers, word of mouth, marketing plans, etc)
Operations (Helping with the details of the Sunday morning service, ie: greeting and helping set up the guest musician, assist the ministers, etc.)
Bookstore (Operate bookstore on Sunday mornings and for special events when applicable)
Community Outreach (Adopt a highway/street clean up team, adopt a family at Christmas, other community opportunities and needs)
Expansion (This includes Visioning, Fundraising, and Location Committees)
To sign up to volunteer in general &/or for a specific committee, please email our Chair of Committees Robbie Warren at rwinterior@aol.com
